Holidays and observations
Canadians celebrate and observe a number of holidays each year. Some celebrations are recognized holidays with days off from work and school.

Punctuality
It is important to be on time, or even early, for appointments. Your friends and colleagues will expect you to arrive as agreed, or advise them if you will be late. It is a serious problem if an employee is frequently late for work.

Daylight Savings Time
To make the most of the seasons’ daylight hours, New Brunswickers, along with most of the rest of Canada, move their clocks ahead one hour in the spring, and back one hour each fall.

Shopping
You should be able to find almost everything you need nearby, or in the nearest urban centre, from groceries (with ethnic specialty food aisles) to clothing, to second-hand or used goods. Look for the shops or services you need in your local telephone directory, also available online. In the business listings, or Yellow Pages you will be able to find goods and services by category. You will have to pay the 13 per cent Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) on most goods and services you buy. You will need to pay the price as marked on the item, plus HST; in general, prices are not open to negotiation or bargaining.

Tipping
If you are happy with the service you have received, it is customary to tip 15 per cent to 20 per cent on services such as taxi fares, hair styling, and food service.

News
There are a number of ways to stay up to date on current local, national and international affairs. Daily newspapers, television, radio and online news, and current events programming will tell you what you need to know, and also about events in your community.
